Pre-Op Questions to Ask
Your doctor has told you that you need surgery.
Many questions are likely floating around in your head. Here are
four you should ask your surgeon, according to a recently
published article in the Wall Street Journal. How many times
have you performed this surgery? This is the most important
question that can improve your chance of a successful outcome. Do
you know the anesthesiologist? The best surgeons work with a
select few anesthesiologists, so the surgeon should be able to name
them. Whom would you go to? You'll learn how reputable your
doctor is in this surgery. Can the surgery be done less
invasively? Knowing your options is always smart, even if surgery
ends up being the best choice.
Once you and your doctor decide that surgery will help
you, you'll need to learn what to expect from the surgery and create a
treatment plan for the best results afterward. Preparing mentally
and physically for surgery is an important step toward a successful
result.
P.S. - Ask your surgeon what treatments he/she sees on
the horizon for your problem. It may be worth waiting for.
