Doctor Appointments for Seniors
To maintain good health into your golden years,
it's important to see your doctor regularly. Individuals in their
50s should schedule an appointment every two years, while those in their
60s and older should see the doctor annually. Prepare for
appointments by tracking any allergies, your personal and family medical
history, medications and immunizations. Symptoms that should be
discussed with the doctor include chest pain, changes in a mole or other
skin marking, blood in the stool, vomiting or coughing up blood,
dizziness or fainting, confusion, unexplained weight loss, tingling
sensation or numbness, vision loss or shortness of breath. Ask
your doctor about your risks for heart disease, stroke, cancer and
diabetes.
If you're reading this column, we know that you are
interested in positive measures for your health. It's very likely that
you're physically active and you watch what you eat. We also want
to strongly encourage you to have regular medical checkups. When
you know your lifestyle is healthy and you're feeling great, it's so
easy to postpone a routine physical exam.
P.S. - Discuss any concerns about your medications,
including doses and side effects with your doctor.
